POLICE have reported a ‘significant spike’ in anti-social behaviour at Delamere Forest – including setting fires and the inconsiderate use of vehicles.

Cheshire Police Rural Crime Team stepped up patrols in and around the woodland area after an increase in behaviour which poses major fire risks to the trees, undergrowth and wildlife habitats.

Officers are reminding residents not to use disposable barbecues in the area, as they are ‘strictly prohibited’.

A team member said: “Patrols are concentrating in the Delamere area after there has been a significant spike in anti-social behaviour in and around Delamere Forest.

“This is related to the inconsiderate use of all manner of small electric vehicles (some of which we can permanently seize) and the ignition of fires and use of disposable barbecues.

“Yes, it may be jolly nice to relax by either, however both pose major fire risks to the woodland, undergrowth and wildlife habitats and are strictly prohibited.”

The force added: “The forest is an emerald in the crown of Cheshire, being the largest area of woodland in the county.
