'Night hawkers' target Segontium fort in Caernarfon as police appeal for information

An appeal has been launched after reports of "night hawking" at an ancient North Wales fort. Hawkers have been reportedly targeting the ruins of Segontium in Caernarfon.

"Night hawking" is the illegal metal detecting and theft of precious artefacts from protected historical sites. North Wales Police have urged anybody with information to contact the force.

The police's rural crime team wrote on Twitter: "We have received reports of night hawking at Segontium Fort, Caernarfon. Night hawking is the practice of illegal metal detecting at protected heritage sights. Hawkers have been digging at the site and we would ask that you report any such activity to us."
