'Mucky afternoon' as cow falls into cesspit

A hapless cow that became stuck at the bottom of a cesspit was carried back to a farm suspended on the front of a digger after being rescued by firefighters. The grumpy-looking bovine was hoisted into the air after being found trapped in a pit of waste at a farm in Herefordshire.

Herefordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene on Tuesday afternoon with a vet, who sedated the stricken animal before she was winched to safety. Rescuers used a telehandler and animal rescue rescue equipment to carry her back to the barn, where she was checked over for any injuries.
