A park visitor has expressed her anger after witnessing a man punch and kick a swan at a beauty spot in Warwickshire. The incident happened at Kingsbury Water Park last Sunday (April 10).
A couple were eating food at a bench near to an entrance to the Broomey Croft Childrens Farm, at around 11.30am, when ducks, geese and swans approached them. A swan is said to have nipped the coat of a woman sitting on the bench causing her partner to react in the most vicious fashion.
First he threw a picnic rug at the bird and then, a cup of coffee, believed to have been bought at the Warwickshire site. He then proceeded to punch the swan and kicked it over, before moving to another bench.
An eyewitness from Walmley in Sutton Coldfield was at the park with her son, and has asked not to be named, told BirminghamLive : “It was one of those I can’t believe this is happening in front of me moments. I got to the park around half 10 and had gone for an hour’s walk. At around half 11 I sat down near the Broomey Croft entrance with my son.
“There were geese, ducks and swans. All sorts of wildlife there. There was a couple sitting at a bench and they had brought food in a plastic container.
“Two swans came up to them, an adult swan and a cygnet. These were wild animals looking for food. One walked up to the table and took a nip at the back of the lady’s coat. Nothing serious."
She continued: "What happened next was carnage. The guy jumped up and had a picnic rug and first of all he threw that at the swan. Then he had a coffee bought at the site and threw it at the swan. The swan was bewildered by that and couldn’t see.
