Armed police were called to a high-speed chase which ended with a teenager being arrested on suspicion of driving a stolen Land Rover dangerously. Officers at East Bassetlaw Police, which covers Retford, Harworth and the surrounding villages, arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving and theft of a motor vehicle on Wednesday, May 25.

Police said there had been a number of reported thefts of Land Rovers in rural communities around Retford and Bassetlaw. Officers reportedly spotted a car travelling with a cloned license plate, which could have been linked to the wave of thefts.

As they prepared to pull the car over, officers spotted a Land Rover driving behind the car that they suspected had been stolen. The 19-year-old driver then allegedly attempted to evade arrest, leading officers on a high-speed chase before heading off-road into the rural countryside.

An armed response unit and road crime unit successfully intercepted another vehicle in the nearby town of Worksop shortly before 11.20pm later that day and the man was arrested. He has since been released on bail with conditions pending further enquiries.
