A bike gang hurled homophobic abuse at a couple in Macclesfield Forest before robbing them. Officers from Cheshire Constabulary said two men were at the beauty spot on Tuesday (October 4).

At around 10am they were subjected to homophobic abuse by a group of four or five men on off-road bikes. The offenders then robbed the couple of their bag and rode away.

Police have been investigating the incident and are supporting the two victims. Officers are now appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and who has any information to come forward.

Sgt Rob Simpson, of the Cheshire Police Rural Crime Team, said: "One of the reasons I love the countryside is because it's a great place to go and enjoy responsibly and lawfully, no matter what mode of transport we use, or who we are as people.

"The following incident, I know will concern many of you, and we are very keen to identify those involved so we can continue to support the two gents subjected to the crime and to put the offenders before the court.
