A GROUP of youths from County Durham will appear in court after members of the public helped identify them via CCTV as suspects who smashed up a bus stop and caused hundreds of pounds of damage.

Last night (March 30), police officers in Crook were alerted to an incident that saw extensive damage to a bus stop that included smashed windows and debris strewn across the scene.

After attending the vandalism incident in the town, officers worked with the local community and nearby businesses who were able to identify those responsible.

The youths were confirmed to be from the Bishop Auckland area and identified on CCTV, interviewed and will be summons to court for the offence of criminal damage.

A spokesperson from Durham Constabulary said: “We would like to thank the community for their support and assistance during this investigation.”
