
Crash on the A171 near Whitby involving horse box - road closed

EMERGENCY services are on the scene of a crash on the A171 near Whitby, and the road is closed in both directions.
The crash involved a horse box going through a wall at approximately 13:05pm today (Sunday, May 8).
Multiple emergency service vehicles are present including police, fire service, ambulance and vet still at the scene.
Police are advising drivers to turn around and find an alternative route.
A vet was been called to assist the horses. One horse was injured and has since been destroyed. The other two horses in the horse box were unhurt.
Injuries unknown but thought not to be serious.
A spoksperson for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at around 1pm this afternoon on the A171 around the junction with Skelder Road on the outskirts of Whitby. We had reports of a car in a collision with a horse box. We sent two ambuances and transported one patient to James Cook."
