Firefighters used fans to speed up a barn fire near Torquay on Thursday (March 30).
Both crews from Newton Abbot were mobilised alongside a crew from Torquay Fire Station to reports of an agricultural building on fire.
Upon arrival of the crews it was clear that the barn, holding hay and straw bales, was well alight.
Crews got to work with 51mm hoses to keep the boundaries cool, to prevent the fire spreading to nearby vegetation.
Because the barn was completely involved in fire, the building and its contents were deemed impossible to save.
Therefore, the incident commander took the decision to employ multiple PPV (Positive Pressure Ventilation) fans.
These fans flood fire with oxygen, which speeds up the burning process and so results in the incident being resolved faster.
