A huge fire is testing firefighters as it burns through two fields near Stroud this afternoon.

Just after 3.15pm Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) reported that it was dealing with a large fire in Clapton, Berkeley.

A spokesperson warned that there would be smoke in the area for some time. They asked the public to stay away from the area and nearby residents to keep their windows and doors closed.

Some ten minutes later Avon Fire Service confirmed that it had sent fire crews from Portishead, Yate and Thornbury to assist.
