A FIRE chief has warned people to 'keep our countryside safe' this summer after crews from Keswick were called to an incident in the Lake District at the weekend.
At 8.22am on Sunday, July 24, crews from Keswick Fire Station were called to reports of a fire in the open.
Upon arrival, crews identified the fire was caused by a campfire that was still burning and deep seated into the ground.
Manager for prevention at Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service Craig Drinkland has asked people to 'please help' emergency services keep the countryside safe throughout the summer.
