Surrey Police

A man has been sentenced following an investigation by the Country Watch team into hare coursing in the Crondall area of Farnham.

Police were called to farmland in the afternoon of 22 November 2022, following reports of a trespasser on the land whose Lurcher dog was chasing hares.

The dog’s owner, later identified as 35-year-old John Giles, abandoned the animal and fled the scene prior to police arrival.

With the assistance of local people including the landowner, shepherds and gamekeepers, police were able to locate the Lurcher in a residential garden. The animal’s microchip was able to lead officers back to Mr Giles, who himself called police the next day to report that his wife had lost their dog.
