Cross-border criminals who prey on rural communities were sent a resounding message as part of our continued crackdown.
The latest #OpCheckpoint initiative was ran on Thursday night in partnership with officers from Durham Constabulary, Cleveland Police and Cumbria Constabulary and Northumbria Police.
In total, nearly 100 suspicious vehicles were stopped and checked across the rural areas of all four forces.
The biggest rural policing operation of its kind in the UK, #OpCheckpoint sees police, partners and volunteers join forces to target criminals who travel between counties to commit rural acquisitive crime, as well as wildlife and poaching offences.
They were once again superbly assisted by our Ruralwatch volunteers – a team of selfless rural residents who closely monitor the areas they know most, and feed directly into front-line officers if they see anything that rouses suspicion.
