A fire which devastated a huge part of a Peak District beauty spot is still burning, three days on. The fire at Win Hill Edge, overlooking the Ladybower Reservoir, is still being tackled by firefighters.

It started during the searing heatwave on Tuesday, July 19, and a camping stove was found at the scene. Firefighters have appealed to people visiting wild areas not to use stoves or portable barbecues.

A Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said tonight, Friday, July 22: "Remember the fire at Win Hill Edge where we found the camp stove and bbq - well we are still there!

"The fire is travelling at around 30 metres per hour and four fire crews, officers, an Argo cat (all-terrain vehicle) and water carrier are still deployed dealing with the fire.

"It may have rained, but the ground. was and is still so dry it didn’t help us out!

"What’s the average cost of a portable bbq? £3 or £4? We can’t begin to estimate the cost of this fire on our resources, the local economy, the flora and fauna and its habitat.
