Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery in Runcorn.

At 1.45pm on Monday 24 April a woman and a man were riding their bikes along Whitchurch Way when two men on an off-road electric bike began following them. As they got to Cranage Close the two men wearing balaclavas kicked out at them.

The pillion passenger then produced a bladed weapon and threatened them. The victims fled on their bikes to the Halton Lodge area and did not see which direction the suspects went.

The male rider of the electric off-road bike is described as wearing all black clothing, a black soft-shell jacket, with the hood up, and a balaclava. The male pillion passenger is described as wearing black pants, a blue rain jacket, and a balaclava.

The bike was a Surren electric off-road bike in red, white and black.

Officers supported by the police helicopter made a search of the area but the suspects were not identified.
