Police patrols on Bodmin Moor, Dartmoor and Exmoor

Devon and Cornwall Police are increasing patrols in rural areas including Bodmin Moor, Dartmoor and Exmoor throughout May, to better protect the countryside its communities and businesses during a time when the counties’ populations will significantly rise.

Rural Affairs Officer, PC Chris Collins said: “With three bank holidays in May, we’re increasing our rural patrols to safeguard people and livestock during a time when more visitors are expected in Cornwall and Devon.”

While farmers and landowners are more than aware of the responsibilities of walkers, police are reminding visitors to the countryside to respect and protect the environment, wildlife and the regions' historic landmarks.

PC Collins said: "Take notice of local signage, respect wildlife and any livestock around you, keeping your dog on a lead to protect livestock and ground nesting birds.
