Two off-road pumps from Bridport and another team from Sturminster Newton were in a field in Portesham to deal with the blaze.
They said that the bonfire had been unattended and urged people to refrain from carrying out controlled burns or bonfires amid the ongoing dry weather and amber wildfire alert.
Bridport Fire Station added that the fire, which happened just after 3pm, had spread to an area of approximately 60 metres by 20 metres (196ft by 65 foot).
An extra crew from Sturminster Newton was requested due to the remote location, while police arrived to take the details of the land owner.
Fire crews posted a video on social media showing the aftermath of the blaze, which had burnt several areas of grass in a field near the west Dorset village as firefighters hosed down the hotspots.
