Residents asked to close windows and doors for overturned tanker recovery in Eaglesfield

Residents in the areas of Paddle Primary School, Brandlingill, Low Lorton, High Lorton, Littlethwaite area, are being asked by police to keep their windows and doors closed, as a precaution, for the next four hours, or until a further police issued updated is released. This could be in the early hours.

The request follows an incident this morning where a tanker overturned on the A5086 near to the school.

The tanker container contains 60% Nitric Acid.

The incident has been carefully managed during the day by police, the Environment Agency, HAZMAT, and specialist officers from Cumbria Fire and Rescue.

There has been no perceived threat to the public.

The next stage in the recovery of the tanker is to remove the content of it’s container, which will be carefully managed by all agencies involved.
