COUNCIL officers are currently investigating a ‘shameful’ fly-tipping incident that has put a ‘severe blight’ on the County Durham countryside after sofas, building materials and furniture was dumped in rural grasslands.

Neighbourhood wardens from Durham County Council are looking into the incident that saw Causey Road in Stanley covered in rubbish – and how it came to be at the location.

As part of an investigation, the council officials are appealing to members of the public to get in touch with them if they spotted anyone fly-tipping in Stanley recently.

A spokesperson from Durham County Council’s neighbourhood wardens said: “Neighbourhood Wardens are currently investigating a fly tip that was reported to us on the Causey Road in Stanley.

“If you witnessed anything or have information that will assist us with our investigation, please call us on the number below quoting reference 745269

“It's a shame our beautiful countryside is ruined by people who think this is acceptable.
