A PRIMARY school in St Asaph has been left devastated after its hedges were “indiscriminately hacked down” last weekend.

Ysgol Esgob Morgan say the hedges were more than 40 years old, and that the birds nesting there have now been deprived their habitats.

Tim Redgrave, headteacher at Ysgol Esgob Morgan, expressed his sadness at the incident, adding that replacing the destroyed hedges will require some effort and cost.

Mr Redgrave said: “The whole school community is shocked and saddened at such a mindless act of destruction.

“We have to be very careful when tending to the hedges due to the nesting season.

“These have been indiscriminately hacked down with no due regard or the school or for the nature living within the hedges.

“The school has a wonderful relationship with the community and, thankfully, incidents such as this are rare – but this feels like a very personal attack on the school.

“Also, now, we will have to find the funds to clear up the mess left behind. Awful.”
