A MAN is due in court accused of setting his dog on a chicken.

As part of a hare coursing investigation, police have been shown evidence said to show a man intentionally set his dog on a chicken.

The chicken was killed as part of the attack and, following enquiries, a 20-year-old man from Verwood was interviewed for animal cruelty offences, according to Dorset Police’s rural crime team.

He has now been issued with a postal requisition to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, May 31 for offences under section 4 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006 (unnecessary suffering).
