Humberside Police have warned that oil thefts are an emerging issue in East Yorkshire with fuel becoming increasingly valuable across the country.
The Rural Task Force has been offering advice to residents who rely on oil as their means of heating and powering their properties. PC Kevin Jones of the Rural Task Force said: “There have been five reported offences across our region since the start of the year but, as this could be an emerging issue, we are taking a proactive approach by offering advice and support to our rural communities – many of whom will be vulnerable due to either age or reliance on oil.”
One of the cases mentioned by PC Jones occurred in Foston on the Wolds, East Riding of Yorkshire. It is reported that a small, unmarked tanker was seen in the area on either Wednesday, February 2 or Thursday, February 3.
Anyone with information relating to this incident can contact the police on their non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference 16/21962/22. “The property now has monitored CCTV and we have worked at putting additional crime prevention measures in place,” added PC Jones.
