Widnes police probe reports of wildlife shooting near Mersey

POLICE were visible in Widnes following shocking reports of wildlife being shot with an air rifle yesterday, Thursday.
The horrific incident is suspected to have occurred around the Mersey estuary, having been reported by members of the public.
Officers from Cheshire Police’s Rural Crime Team visited the area to follow up on the reports and check for injured animals.
They are urging anyone with any information to get in touch with the police.
PCSO Graham, from the Rural Crime Team, said: “I have visited the Widnes area with PC Perry over concerns of wildlife offences.
“Please phone 999 if there is a crime in action, or 101 if you have a report after the fact.”
The news comes days after further reports of shocking cruelty towards wildlife in the town, with youths said to have been throwing objects at wildfowl in Victoria Park.
